Volunteer

Volunteers are always welcome to attend the after-school program or monthly events!  You may also run a program/activity during the after-school program if you have a special skill you would like to share! Currently, we are looking for volunteers to help with the following:

1.Food Programs:

a. Morning food preparation, between 10-11 am: MYC staff bag the afternoon dinners every day in the morning to prepare for the free dinner and snack program for our After School members. Due to the short administration time before the kids arrive at 2:15 PM, we could always use help with this in the morning. Help pass out dinners and snacks during the After School Program, from 2:15-6 PM (you do not need to commit to that entire timeframe)!

b. Spoonfuls Prep and Distribution: We distribute rescued food weekly for families who sign up! Every Wednesday (time may vary) we need help packaging the food.

2. Homework Help/Quiet Zone: We would like to offer more time for the youth to utilize our upstairs areas, that are quieter to complete homework and/or read, Monday-Thursday from 3:00-3:30 PM.

3. After-School Programs: The MYC is so fortunate to be able to offer several free programs such as sewing, fishing, boxing, social emotional, youth council, book club, cooking, nutrition, arts & crafts, mindful movement, to name a few. More than half of our programs are run by volunteers. If you have talent or hobby and would like to run a bi-weekly or monthly program, please reach out and fill out the form below!

4. Life Skills: We are looking for monthly volunteers to teach our youth members new life skills that will help them succeed in present time and that will carry on with them in the future. Last year, we were fortunate to have some of the following Like Skill programs; automotive, wood working, cyber safety, basic banking, drug awareness, CPR and more. If there is a skill you have or an abundance of knowledge in a particular topic that you would like to teach and share, please do so with us!

 5. Skate Park: Thanks to an Eagle Scout project completed by Josh Schorn, we can offer skate park ramps as a new program. With that, we are looking for individuals with knowledge of skateboarding that could help oversee and teach safety and some basic moves.

6. Monitor space with staff: We always welcome additional help to oversee our three main spaces open every day to the registered after-school members: Gym, Game Room and Kitchen areas.

7. Events: Every year we host multiple events, like our Halloween Fright Night and Kid Zone/Party, After School Thanksgiving Dinner, Fashion Show, Fundraisers, and more!

Please contact our Program Coordinator, Joanna Abrantes here or call 508-473-1756 if you would like to volunteer. You will be required to schedule a meeting to go over rules and guidelines and must complete this volunteer form and have a CORI run prior to starting!
