Summer is around the corner, which means Youthworks 2026 is about to begin! We are excited to announce that the MYC was awarded $64,800 to run the 2026 Youthworks program and offer these employment opportunities through the Commonwealth Corporation under the Commonwealth of Massachusetts YouthWorks Program and MassHire Central Career Center!
This summer 20 youth will be working at 5 different sites including Milford Parks Department, The Milford Youth Center, Milford Town Library, Sweet Inspirations and Bob’s Marina, and participate in multiple activities and presentations planned by supervisory staff.
For this upcoming Cycle we have two new Youthworks Supervisors who are excited to continue to grow this program:
David Abrantes: I began volunteering at the Milford Youth Center as way to give back to the community. I started teaching a woodworking class in honor of longtime volunteer Ron. That experience, along with coaching youth soccer for 10 plus years, led me to become a Program Supervisor. Inspired by this work, I transitioned from a successful 20-year career in the construction industry to pursue becoming a vocational teacher. My unique background in both construction and youth development allows me to connect real-world experience with meaningful career guidance for the next generation. I now have the opportunity of overseeing the YouthWorks program, helping youth explore career opportunities, develop workplace skills, and build pathways to future success.
Miguel Henrique Marques De Oliveira: I am going into my junior year of college at the University of New England with a major in Sports Leadership and Management and a minor in Coaching while also being a varsity athlete playing for the Men’s Soccer team. I started the Youthworks program working at the Youth Center in the summer of 2023 and I’ve been a part of the Center ever since. The Youthworks program introduced me to many opportunities that other teenagers in the community did not have. In the program we participated in different presentations, from individuals with different careers. They showed us that there isn’t just one option you must take once graduating high school. I used my experience in Youthworks over these past few years to gain experience which resulted in the opportunity to be a supervisor. I now get to help these kids that are coming into a position that I once was in just a few years ago!
This program will officially launch on July 6th! We can’t wait to see all the exciting things this summer brings!
