Monthly Gratification Post: Jacob Eosco, (Gibby!)

Each month, we thank an individual, business and/or organization who supports our efforts. This month we would like to recognize a past Milford Youth Center (MYC) attendee, former employee, volunteer and forever friend, Jacob Eosco, aka, “Gibby”.

Jacob is a full circle example of what the MYC sets out to achieve for our Youth. Jacob attended the after-school program, later when he was of age, applied to work during the after- school program and years later, he has donated items for Hopes for the Holidays, helped lead the fire drill where he works with the Milford Fire Department and most recently spoke at the 4th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser about his experience at the MYC.

Jacob was a part of the MYC prior to the renovations. He was a big part of advocating for space to be used for the youth. There is a “famous” photo of Jacob holding a sign he made that read, “save my second home”. Without the dedication of youth like Jacob in the years leading to the renovation, we would not be here today. Together, with Jen, and other dedicated youth like Jacob, they went to town meetings, made signs, and expressed the true need for the use of this amazing building. Jacob truly made a difference for the youth then, today and for years to come.

Jacob later applied to work as an after-school part-time staff member. He went through the application, interview, and hiring process just as any applicant would. He was hired and was a great role model. The kids looked up to him and made an impact as an employee.

Because of the gratitude he developed over the years for the Center and all it did for him, Jacob never lost touch with Jen, who continues to serve as the Director. They stayed in touch over the years, and no matter how much time had passed, they were always able to pick up right where they left off.

As a child, Jacob was a recipient of gifts through the Hopes for the Holidays program. Last year, he came full circle by sponsoring a child himself. We can only hope that the values the Center instills in every child who walks through its doors will stay with them throughout their lives, and that one day they will have the opportunity to give back to another child in the same way someone once gave to them. Jacob did exactly that. His act of kindness warmed the hearts of the full-time staff and serves as a wonderful reminder of why we do this work.

Jacob is a proud member of the Milford Fire Department. At our practice fire drill during our after-school program, he was one of the several fire fighters who came to direct the drill to ensure the safety of the children, accuracy and efficiency. Again, full circle. We are so proud of all his accomplishments and love that he is just next door!

Most recently, we asked Jacob to be the speaker at our 4th annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser. In recent years, we have learned that while the staff can go on about stats and numbers, we found that having young adults that attended the MYC come and share their personal story at events proves to be much more impactful. Jacob agreed to share his story on May 15, 2026. His words, his stories, his memories, made such an impact. We are so thankful that he agreed to speak and share. We are humbled by the specific stories he shared about Jen in particular, and how her guidance and determination are two things he holds onto. To watch his speech, click  here.   “Gibby”, thank you for being such a positive impact to the MYC family. We appreciate you!
