MYC Annual Open House & Back-To-School Event!

On Monday, August 18th from 10 am – 2pm, the Milford Youth Center will be holding our Annual Open House and Back to School Event! This year, we have so many exciting additions! Emily Sobers of Haven Beauty met with MYC staff over the summer, wanting to offer free services to our members and we came up with a great idea…lets offer free haircuts for the start of school! In addition to providing haircuts, Haven Beauty will also be providing chair massages and brow tweezing. We then reached out to some local barbers, and the response was amazing! New Generation, Lunas Place and Gus Cuts will be joining us as well! Haircuts will be first come, first serve, 30 minutes appointments, as time allows! We encourage all those who are getting services to provide tips to volunteers, if you would like!

We will also be able to give out 100 backpacks, with supplies, thanks to the United Way of Tri-County and the Hockomock Area YMCA! We are also so excited to announce that, Butter’s House, a boarding and daycare service for dogs, in Milford, will be sponsoring an ice cream truck (My. Ice Guy Treats) to join the festivities from 12-2 pm! Haven Beauty will also be sponsoring a food truck from 12-2 (Big Daddy’s Bites)!

Finally, longtime supporter of the MYC, Ray Auger or Raydio, will be at the event playing music and taking interviews! Raydio will also be collecting school supplies up until the event as well! You can drop off your donations in the drop box outside the Raydio Studios at 43 Taft Street in Milford — anytime during daytime hours! All types of supplies are welcome — crayons, notebooks, pencils, scissors, glue sticks, folders, you name it! Can’t make it to the studio? No problem! Raydio is happy to pick up your donation — just email localraydio@gmail.com to coordinate.

Anyone who is interested in registering their child for the after-school program this Fall can attend and register (must be Milford resident or student attending Milford Public Schools, ages 8-18)! We will also have the building open for tours and staff available to meet and to answer any questions! We will also have some volunteers at the event to talk about some of the programs that they help with throughput the school year! We look forward to running our after-school program beginning on Tuesday, September 2nd!

All participants of the Youth Center must annually fill out our registration form to be a member (registrations will open on August 18th). Once this form is completed, members will receive a key tag and ID number if they are new to the program. This is our way of signing up for programs and for tracking attendance, so please make sure all members bring their key tag to enter. If key tags are lost, the Youth Center will charge $1.00 for a replacement.

The Youth Center offers game room, café/lounge and gymnasium. We also offer 2-3 structured programs daily for youth to sign up for (check monthly calendar). We also offer a free snack and dinner program, due to the collaboration of CACFP, Hockomock Area YMCA, and the Milford School Food & Nutrition Services Department. Members will also be able to use our washer and dryer, free of charge, during our hours of operation. For more general information about the program, click here. Please keep an eye out for more information about our 25’-26’ After School Program!

FYI: The Center will be getting work done on the building throughout the summer, so you will see scaffolding and construction. You will not be able to exit from the right side of the MYC driveway that leads to our back parking lot. We advise you to park across the street and/or the road on the allowed side. There will be an area fenced off in the parking lot across the street as well for construction materials, but one half will be left for MYC/Town parking! Thank you!

Finally, thank you to MyFM 101.3 for having Emily Sobers and Jen Ward on the radio to help promote the event!
