In the fall of 2005 Paul F. “Wally” Seaver became the Chairman of the Milford Youth Commission. Under Paul’s leadership the Youth Center has thrived to greater expectations than anyone thought possible. It is now a safe haven for the thousands of youths who attend. Paul, who had always been active in many youth based programs, spearheaded improvements that took the Youth Center to new heights. Some of these improvements were new windows, a boiler, lighting, and a bright new appearance. But the biggest change was the opening of the Youth Center to a seven-day schedule to give Milford’s children a safe environment for fun and exercise.
A 1977 graduate of Milford High School, Paul was a standout football and basketball player. In his desire to give back to his community, Paul became the junior varsity basketball coach at Milford High in 1981 and coached that team until 1989. Paul then became the varsity basketball coach at Franklin High School in 1989 and coached that team for eleven years. Paul’s 1997-1998 Franklin basketball team won the Hockomock League championship and advanced all the way to the state Final Four. Paul most recently coached the Wellesley junior varsity team during the 2010-2011 season.
Paul and his wife Debbie (Maffia) became the proud parents of sons Paul and Daniel. When they were of age, Paul began coaching his sons’ basketball teams in the Milford youth leagues. Paul served as the President of the Milford Amateur Basketball Association for numerous seasons and grew the entire program to make it the success that it is today. Paul also coached several entries in the Milford Summer Basketball League.
On Saturday, October 22, 2011, the gymnasium at the Milford Youth Center was dedicated to Paul F. Seaver. Thank you Paul for your years of dedication. You will be missed.
