We are excited to announce that the Milford Youth Center received a Community Partners for Health (CHNA-6) grant to start our MYC “Generations” program! Our proposed project was to create a multigenerational fitness and nutritional program at the Milford Youth Center that will fall under the CHNA 6 priority area of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. The goal of this priority area is to create healthier communities and prevent chronic disease by improving nutrition and increasing physical activity. We believe that this program will address this goal by providing a space, program, and training to the Milford community.
The idea is to create a program to address this issue stems from a long-term goal/strategic planning of the Center and from a set of PACE equipment that was donated by Midtown Family Fitness & Racquetball Club of Milford last year! PACE stands for “Programmed Accommodating Circuit Exercise.” PACE is the world’s first hydraulic circuit training program, the matches the speed and force of the user, allowing any user, at any fitness level, to achieve results. For this reason, this type of program and equipment is suggested and recommended for both seniors and youth alike, and why we choose to create a program that will target members who utilize the Senior Center and our After School program! The goal of this program is to see youth and seniors working out together, for the common goal of improving their health, while also creating meaningful relationships and comradery! We hope to have this program up and running, once the Renovation is complete!
Thank you CHNA-6 for awarding us this grant and supporting the Milford Youth Center! We will be able to purchase a new treadmill and elliptical due to this grant! More about this program will be available at a later date! Check out this Milford Daily News article about the grant!
