On Monday, August 18th from 10 am – 2pm, the Milford Youth Center hosted our Annual Open House and Back to School Event! This year, we have so many exciting additions! Emily Sobers of Haven Beauty met with MYC staff over the summer, wanting to offer free services to our members and we came up with a great idea…lets offer free haircuts for the start of school! In addition to providing haircuts, Haven Beauty also provided chair massages and brow tweezing. We then reached out to some local barbers, and the response was amazing! New Generation, Lunas Place and Gus Cuts joined us as well!
We will also be able to give out 150 backpacks, with supplies, thanks to the United Way of Tri-County and the Hockomock Area YMCA! Finally, longtime supporter of the MYC, Ray Auger or Raydio, passed out additional school supplies, socks, backpacks and hygiene products, while playing music for us! We would like to thank all the community members who participated in his month-long collection of donated items!
We would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Butter’s House, a boarding and daycare service for dogs, in Milford, who sponsored an ice cream truck (Mr. Ice Guy Treats) to join the festivities and again to Haven Beauty who sponsored a food truck (Big Daddy’s Bites)!
We would like to thank some of our program tables, which included: Sam from the Milford Town Library, Carly from FitFunCarly, Shelby from MA 4-H Youth Development – UMASS Extension, Syndney from Community Autism Services, and Phyllis, Patty, and Dee from the Greenleaf Gardening Club! We would also like to thank the Milford Police Department for the police detail and for having representatives from the Special Ops Team, School Resource Officers and the Family Services Unit, and Piper, the MPD Comfort K9!
Finally, we would like to thank the Facilities’ team for helping with the set-up and break-down of the event to the Milford Public Schools, MyFM 101.3 and Raydio for helping to promote the event!
