Each month we thank an individual, business and/or organization who supports our efforts. This month we would like to recognize the outside service members who have contributed and made an impact to
the MYC since the start of the 2024-2025 after-school program.
Like volunteers, outside service members take time out of their workday to be a part of the After-School program in various capacities. Some, such as Wayside Youth and Family, CPR Friends and Family, AMR Ambulatory Services, Scouts of America, and MPD Family Services have run a one-time MYC program called Life Skills. A Life Skills program focuses on a particular task, topic, or trade in which the outside service members take the time to teach, using hands-on activities when applicable, short videos, or whatever they have planned to teach the children in the amount of time allotted.
Cornerstone of Milford joins us monthly for an intergenerational program, which brings the staff and residents together with the Milford Youth Center (MYC) staff and after-school members, for a craft and a chance to spend time together. Milford TV, a long-time collaboration and committed outside service runs a program twice a month
which allows the children to learn about proper use of the equipment, interviewing tips and most recently, editing! Carly of FitFunCarly has also been a committed outside service member to the MYC. She has run fitness programs that always end with a game and a prize! This year she has incorporated the nutrition aspect. This helps the kids learn that healthy snacks can also be delicious!
Jen of Infinite PAWZ-ibilities comes to the MYC during her training work time to run a program. In this program, she teaches the kids dog-training techniques. Luckily, we have MYC’s comfort and therapy dog, Cora, to help lead this program! We All Hoop, run by Coach Aaron is a returning program in this program, Coach Aaron makes sure to make time in his schedule to be at the Center to teach the kids basketball skills and drills.
It is important for us to recognize the outside service members who take time out of their workday to be a part of the Milford Youth Center After-School Program. They see the importance of keeping the kids engaged and expanding their knowledge, that they may otherwise not have the opportunity to experience. They are committed to sharing their expertise with the youth of Milford. They are connecting with the children in ways we may otherwise not have the chance to. In the future, one of our outside service members could be the very reason why one of our after-school members chose a career path, and they will always be remembered for having had the opportunity!
