MYC Youth Council: December 2023 Updates

December was officially month three of our Youth Council! This December our youth council was up to some very cool and exciting things. Their main focus this month was to create a holiday donation collection for the Milford Humane Society, a local shelter for cats. The Milford Humane Society is a non-profit, all volunteer, no-kill shelter for stray and abandoned cats. The goal of this collection was to raise supplies such as toys, beds, food and more for our local kittens/cats in need. Another one of their projects this month was their collaboration with Shaws. Our youth council was able to raise money towards upcoming projects by advocating for people to buy reusable bags in the month of December!

Our two SCI AmeriCorps members, Landon and Iliana, have also been very busy this month. Our members have been attending their community engagement classes at Merrimack College where they have been able to learn about project management and youth development. They have been able to implement what they have learned from these classes into our own youth council. Our AmeriCorps member Iliana was able to create custom holiday gifts for each of our youth council members to celebrate what they have accomplished so far. Landon and Iliana completed their Developing Leaders Program where they traveled to Boston and Merrimack College for Module Learning and will begin their Community Engagement class starting in January. They are excited to start the new year off with a bang stay tuned to see what they will accomplish in this upcoming year!
