We cannot believe we are halfway though summer camp already with 100 campers attending this summer! Campers are able to enjoy activities every day at the Center with our awesome staff! Campers are also able to enjoy free breakfast and lunch due collaboration of SFSP, Hockomock Area YMCA and the Milford School Food & Nutrition Services department. Check out all the fun stuff we have done over the last three weeks!
Week 1 was a success! We started off the week with ConnectEd and Inspired who led the campers in a clay project where they made bugs which fell right into our theme, “A Bug’s Life”! This year MYC has partnered with Goldfish Swim School! Our campers and MYC staff and counselors take a short bus ride over to have the entire facility solely for our campers! Our first field trip of the year was also a first for the Center! We took our campers to Gillette Stadium where they were able to play games, meet the Revs mascot and watch an entire soccer game! Each child was also given a free ticket to see the Revs game on the following Saturday, July 15th! They decorated nylon bugs, made “bug themed” headbands, created beautiful side-walk chalk creations, painted rocks, and had a chance to slide on our outdoor water-slide jumpy! And finally, they watched A Bugs Life, snacked on some popcorn, which led our very busy, fun, and exciting week 1 to an end!
Week 2 was filled with water to go along with our “Under the Sea” theme! Monday the children were entertained by 4-H Youth Development where they did various STEM related activities. Tuesdays Water Wizz field trip was a big hit! Kids enjoyed water slides, wave pool and lazy river. The YMCA also had their Mobile Food Truck at pick up for all families to take advantage of! The campers made a sea creature craft, and we had our weekly visit to Gold Fish Swim School Thursday we got to go to Mendon Town Beach, the water was amazing! The campers did not want to get out! Shout out to Mendon Town Beach for accommodating us! Friday we wrapped up with the Finding Dory movie! The older campers also got to begin the process of pickling cucumbers with our awesome volunteer, Phyllis.
Week 3 started with a few changes of plans but we recovered quickly on Monday with games at Fino Field, paper airplanes, arts and crafts and parachute games! Tuesday, we had our awesome water slide out once again! Some kiddos chose to use large cardboard, paint and their imaginations and they made a house and a camper! Following our weekly theme of Safari, in arts and crafts, the campers painted 3-D animal puzzles and had an afternoon of swimming at Goldfish Swim School. Our field trip at Kimball Farm was a lot of fun! The campers played volleyball, went on bumper cars and boats, played mini golf and the driving range! We were also lucky to enjoy a BBQ along with the camper’s choice of Kimball Farm’s home-made ice-cream! Friday, we wrapped up our week with a safari themed Friday and the Lion King movie and popcorn. We would also like to thank Milford Federal Bank for collecting snack donations and delivering them to the Center for us to distribute to the campers at the end of week 3! We are thankful to our community!
