On Saturday, December 5th from 9 am to 3 pm, a blood drive will be held at the Milford Youth Center to benefit the Boston Children’s Hospital’s (BCH) Blood Donor Center. To make an appointment, please go to www.halfpints.childrenshospital.org and use the sponsor code MILYC!
The current pandemic has really limited the donations that the Blood Donor Center receives for BCH’s patients. Supplies of double red-cells, blood, and platelets remain in critical need every week, making it hard to meet patient needs. Under the new COVID-19 guidelines, blood donations with the bloodmobile will be by appointment only. Upon arrival to the Milford Youth Center, donors will be asked to complete an information form and then screened by one of the nurses. The screening involves checking temperature, blood pressure, iron level with
a small prick of the finger, travel history, and consent. If you are eligible to donate, you will be led to the bloodmobile parked outside where you will make the donation. The actual blood donation usually lasts between 15-20 minutes although the entire process can be 45-60 minutes. Once you’ve finished donating blood, you are rewarded with a little gift from the BCH Blood Donor Center!
Through the entire process, sanitation and distancing is of the utmost priority. All chairs, pens and clipboards, and other materials will be sanitized between donors, and physical distancing will be observed where possible. Masks are required. We would like to thank Olivia Sabini-Leite, who helped organize this blood drive with the Youth Center!
