MYC Building and Staff Updates!

The Youth Center has been keeping very busy over the transition from our After School to Summer Camp Program!
In terms of the building, we took advantage of this time to get our beautiful gymnasium floor refinished. This day long process of sanding and polishing will help maintain our gym floor but there is no use for at-least 5 days. Re-finishing your athletic hardwood floor on an annual basis is critical to the overall maintenance of the floor. Not only will an annual “screen and re-coat” remove topical marks and scuffs from your floor’s finish, but refinishing your floor will provide added protection for your hardwood flooring and paint. Thank you New England Sports Floors for doing a great job! The Center has also been meeting with the Town Engineer and Davey Engineering to prepare the plans to have AC installed in the head-house, thanks to the Town Meeting allocation!
We also were able to start construction on our dance and movie room! We are so excited to get this project up and running and to work with E5 Builders LLC and mjh Architects. Thank you to the Greater Milford Community Health Network for this grant to allow it all to happen. We are also so appreciative of the other community support to come, including Consigli Construction Co., Inc., Benjamin Moore and Lumber Liquidators. Click here for Milford Daily News Article. Finally, the entire staff and community service volunteers helped organize the building for summer camp and a building wide cleaning and inventory took place!
In terms of administrative work, staff participated in numerous trainings and meetings, as we always are trying to grow as a staff and program within the community!
In preparation for Summer Camp, we conducted our summer camp counselor meeting and training with our 22 staff. We would like to thank the Benefits and HR department for joining us, Ron Auger for conducing two days of CPR and first aid lessons and Milford TV for filming. MYC staff also attended a Y.O.U., Inc. “Systems of Care” meeting to share about our summer camp info for families in the area. We also learned of some great resources to share with our families for fun summer ideas to keep kids busy and learning.

Staff also attended a grant training, conducted by the Foundation for MetroWest in Natick. It was a great opportunity for MYC staff to attend and improve our grant writing. We also gave a tour to the Foundation to learn more about the Youth Center and to hopefully partake in their future grant cycle.
In addition, the Foundation is in the process of completing a community needs assessment project, “Impact MetroWest.” Their goal is to use available data and community voice to assess strengths and challenges within our communities to build awareness and drive change. Community data will be available publicly in the Fall of 2019 through a dedicated, interactive website, and will house municipal and/or county-level data coupled with important analysis, interpretation, and trends. The voice of the community will be woven into this project through key stakeholder interviews, focus groups, and a community-wide survey, which will result in a comprehensive and complementary report. They are hoping this will be a useful tool for you and the Milford community! To participate in this survey, please click here.
