Last month was a very busy month for the MYC Youth Council! The Youth Council is a leadership group of MYC after school members striving to make a difference in the community by facilitating different youth community events and taking part in volunteer opportunities!
During the first meeting with our new SCI AmeriCorps member, Marissa, the kids signed up to take part in the the Town’s annual Veteran’s Day Parade. On Veteran’s Day, a gropp marched with the rest of the parade!
The following week, the group met to make plans for the Thanksgiving Dinner held at the Milford Youth Center. Each member brought a dish for the dinner during the after-school program.
The Youth Council also welcomed Board Member and Assistant District Attorney Chuck Calagione for coming in to talk to our Youth Council about his organization Operation SnowstormThe Youth Council also volunteered to help rake leaves in front of the Center and decorate a box for our collection for the soldiers overseas!
During the last meeting of the month, the members decorated a tree to donate to the Gala of Trees event, which is held annually by the Milford Junior
Woman’s Club. Trees are decorated with a chosen theme and auctioned off. The auction money is donated to a local charity. The kids made a “Milford” themed tree to donate towards the event! If a youth is interested in joining the MYC Youth Council please communicate with Marissa at murella@townofmilford.com or call 508-473-1756!
