Taekwondo at the MYC!

Taekwondo started at the Center this month thanks to our volunteer Nick and was a huge hit! We asked Nick to introduce himself to the community and write a little bit about his experience with Taekwondo and why he choose to join us at the Center!

“I’ve been a taekwondo athlete ever since I was 5, spending endless hours training and getting to travel all over the country competing in regional, national, and international championships. I had to stop training once I got into co llege, but I’ve always loved the sport and plan on staying involved in this sport’s community, whether by teaching or training again. Throughout my career in this sport, my most esteemed accomplishments include winning the USA Taekwondo National Championship four times and, my personal favorite, winning gold at the U.S. Open in the 18+ Black Belt division at 16 years old.”
“I wanted to spend some time here at the MYC volunteering so that I could influence the youth of my hometown by leading as a role model, whether in academics or sports. As a biomedical engineering student at WPI, I feel that if can convince some of them about how rewarding a career in STEM can be, I will have helped my local community. Recently I started think about what I would do once I decided to stopped being an engineer, and I decided that I would love to teach in high school. Although I’ll soon be busy pursuing my professional career, I want to always come back to Milford and give back to the community.”
